阎王爷 (Yama) rules the Chinese underworld and judges the souls of the dead. He is borrowed from Indian Buddhism (Yama-rāja) and folded into Chinese folk religion alongside the Ten Kings of Hell (十殿阎罗 shídiàn Yánluó).
usage
见阎王 (jiàn Yánwáng), literally 'meet Yama', is a common euphemism for dying — similar to English 'meet your maker'.
