Tips

history
都一处 was founded in 1738 on Beijing's 前门大街. Legend says that on New Year's Eve in 1752 the Qianlong Emperor, returning incognito from Tongzhou, found it the only shop still open and later personally inscribed the plaque 都一处 ('the one place in the capital'). The shaomai (烧麦) there became imperial fare, and the restaurant still operates as a China Time-Honored Brand (中华老字号) today.
