Full prefecture-level-city form of
遵义 in northern Guizhou. Famous for the January 1935 Zunyi Conference (
遵义会议), held during the Long March, at which Mao Zedong effectively took over military leadership of the CCP from the Comintern-aligned faction — a founding moment of modern red tourism. The city is also the home of Moutai (
茅台酒), the national-prestige baijiu distilled in Maotai town just 150 km away.
