Tips

usage
is bound and formal, used almost only in 迄今 (迄今, 'up to now') and the fuller 迄今为止 (迄今为止, 'so far'). It is common in written and news language.

Components

radical
chuò
to walk; movement
is the walk/movement radical, always written last in stroke order. Reaching 'up to' a point in time is movement toward it, so the motion radical fits the 'until' sense.
phonetic
to beg; phonetic
supplies the sound (qǐ shifting to qì). It is written first, before the walk radical wraps around it, and adds no meaning here.
