Tips

culture
杜甫 wrote the poem in 760, soon after settling in 成都. It opens 丞相祠堂何处寻, 'where shall I find the chancellor's shrine?', and closes 出师未捷身先死,长使英雄泪满襟, 'he marched out but died before victory, and ever since heroes' tears have soaked their robes'.
usage
相 here is xiàng 'chief minister', as in 丞相 and 宰相, not xiāng 'each other'.
