Tips

history
脬 is barely used in modern Chinese, where the bladder is 膀胱. It joins the flesh radical ⺼ with 孚 for the sound. The same 孚 phonetic family includes 泡 and 孵.
register
Classical and dialectal; in standard modern Chinese the everyday word is 膀胱.

Components

radical
⺼ ròu
flesh; body
The flesh form ⺼ on the left, the body-organ marker found in 肝 and 肠. It tells you 脬 names an internal organ - the bladder.
phonetic
孚 fú
to brood; trust
孚 on the right carries the sound (fú giving pāo). The same phonetic recurs in 泡 and 孵, a clue to the reading.
