The core
端午礼物 item is
粽子 (sticky-rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves), traditionally paired with
咸鸭蛋 (salted duck eggs) and
雄黄酒 (realgar wine). The festival commemorates the poet
屈原 (Qu Yuan, 340-278 BCE), who drowned himself in the Miluo River; villagers threw rice dumplings in the water to stop fish eating his body.
