Contrast with 卷发 (juǎnfà, curly hair). At salons you'll hear 拉直 (lāzhí, 'straight perm') and 软化 (ruǎnhuà, 'relaxing treatment') as the main ways to create 直发. Don't confuse with 直发器 (straightening iron).
