Chaoshan covers Chaozhou (
潮州, Cháozhōu), Shantou (
汕头, Shàntóu) and Jieyang (
揭阳, Jiēyáng) in eastern Guangdong. It has its own Min-family language (
潮汕话, Cháoshàn huà) — unintelligible to Mandarin or Cantonese speakers — and a famous food scene: thin-sliced beef hotpot, gongfu tea (
功夫茶, gōngfu chá), and oyster omelette (
蚝烙, háolào).
