民心 is a core concept in Chinese political thought going back to Mencius (
孟子) — the idea that legitimate rule depends on 'winning the hearts of the people' (
得民心). The classical saying
得民心者得天下 ('he who wins popular support wins the empire') is still quoted in modern political discourse.
