First published in 1858 by English anatomist Henry Gray (亨利·格雷). The 氏 (shì, “Mr./surname”) is a formal honorific used in book titles to mean “of [surname]'s”, equivalent to the 's in “Gray's.”
The American TV drama 实习医生格蕾 takes its name from this book; the title pun is deliberate. Note the slightly different transliteration — the book is 格雷, the show is 格蕾.
