Liuzhou is the hometown of 螺蛳粉 - the pungent, fermented-bamboo-shoot rice noodle soup that exploded from local street food to a nationwide packaged-noodle phenomenon in the late 2010s. Vacuum-packed instant 螺蛳粉 is now a Guangxi export staple.
history
Tang dynasty poet and essayist 柳宗元 (773-819) spent his final years and died as governor of Liuzhou, after which the city built a temple in his honor - 柳侯祠 still stands today.
