By the Yuan dynasty, genuine Li Cheng works were so rare that the critic 米芾 complained 'no Li Cheng' () — almost everything attributed to him was actually a later imitation.

Together with Dong Yuan () and Fan Kuan (), he forms the canonical trio of Song founding masters. Most famous attribution is 《》, now in Osaka Museum.
