Based in the
昆仑山 (Kunlun Mountains) range stretching across Xinjiang and Qinghai — the most geographically remote of the classic wuxia sects, which is how it gets its 'western, exotic' flavor. Prominent in Jin Yong's《
倚天屠龙记》as one of the
六大派 ('six great sects'). The traditional form
崑崙 uses the
山 radical for both characters.
