history

Built jointly by China and Pakistan from 1959 to 1979 at the cost of nearly 1,000 lives, the Karakoram Highway crosses the 4,693m Khunjerab Pass — the highest paved international road in the world. A symbol of China-Pakistan friendship (中巴友谊 zhōngbā yǒuyì).
