Loanword from English "rad" (radiation absorbed dose). Largely superseded by the gray (Gy) in SI units but still seen in older medical and nuclear-physics texts.
拉德 also turns up as a fragment in transliterated names like
拉德克里夫 (Radcliffe) or
拉德 standing alone for "Rad/Lad."
