Tips

history
is traditionally explained as a stylized pig's snout or a hand grasping a brush. It was briefly used as a simplification of (snow) in the 1970s before that proposal was withdrawn. Today it is a structural radical only.
usage
appears as the top of characters such as (xuě, snow), (lù, record), (xún, seek), and (guī, return). The variant is an older calligraphic shape with the same role.
