Guang'an (
广安) in eastern Sichuan is best known as the birthplace of Deng Xiaoping (
邓小平, 1904-1997), the architect of China's reform-and-opening-up. The Deng Xiaoping Former Residence (
邓小平故居) in Paifang Village is a major 'red tourism' site. Note the apostrophe in 'Guǎng'ān' — it separates the syllables guǎng and ān to prevent reading as 'guǎn-gān'.
