川上 most often appears in Chinese as the Japanese surname Kawakami ('upstream') - e.g. novelist 川上未映子 (Mieko Kawakami). It also echoes a famous line from 《论语》: 子在川上曰 ("The Master, standing by the river, said..."), where 川上 means "by the river."
