usage

备取 contrasts with 正取 (zhèngqǔ, formally admitted). 备取生 (bèiqǔshēng) is the noun form - 'wait-list student.' Common in Taiwan and Hong Kong school-admission contexts; the mainland equivalent is 候补 (hòubǔ).
