usage

Almost always paired with motion or sense verbs: 四下张望 'look around', 四下打量 'scan one's surroundings', 四下无人 'no one in sight'. Often interchangeable with 四周 (sìzhōu) but 四下 has a more searching, sweep-the-area feel.
