history
Originally from Buddhist scripture: on being born, the infant Buddha is said to have declared '天上天下唯我独尊' (above and below the heavens, only I am supreme). Once a reverent declaration of the Buddha's uniqueness, it now describes egotistical self-aggrandizement.
