There's a classic children's tale called 《咕咚来了》 — a hare hears a fruit fall in a lake (咕咚!), panics, and the rumor 'the gūdōng is coming!' spreads through the forest until a lion investigates. The story is shorthand in Chinese for blind panic-mongering.
