The first of the fifteen sets of airs in the 国风, eleven poems traditionally linked to the lands south of the Zhou capital under the 周公 Duke of Zhou. Besides 关雎 it has 桃夭 'The Peach Tree Is Young', still quoted at weddings, and 汉广 'The Han Is Broad'.
