吉野

吉野 (Yoshino), in Nara Prefecture, is one of Japan's most celebrated cherry-blossom (桜) destinations — the slopes hold roughly 30,000 cherry trees in four named groves. The name also belongs to the 吉野家 (Yoshinoya) gyūdon chain and 吉野川 (Yoshino River).

From 1336 to 1392, Yoshino was the seat of Japan's Southern Court during the Nanboku-chō era — a parallel imperial line that rivaled the Northern Court in Kyoto.
