北京路 (BěijīngLù): Beijing Road (famous pedestrian shopping street in Guangzhou)

Guangzhou's main pedestrian shopping street and, more importantly, a live archaeology site — a glass pavement mid-street lets you look down onto the original paving stones of 11 successive dynasties going back 1,000+ years, showing this was always the city's central north-south axis.

usage

Many cities have a 北京路 (Beijing Road) and a 上海路 (Shanghai Road) — naming major streets after other cities is a very common convention. Context decides which 北京路 is meant: in Guangzhou it's the pedestrian street; in Kunming, Nanjing, Tianjin, it's something else entirely.
