出师 is famously used in Zhuge Liang's two memorials 出师表 (Chūshī Biǎo), written before his Northern Expeditions. Du Fu's line 出师未捷身先死 ('he died before his campaign succeeded') is one of the most quoted lines in Chinese poetry.
