history
济济 (jǐ jǐ — 'in great numbers') comes from 《尚书·大禹谟》: 济济有众,咸听朕命 — a great multitude all heeding my command. The phrase has carried that crowd-of-worthies image for over 2000 years.
mistakes
济 here is read jǐ (third tone), not the more common jì (as in 经济 'economy'). The doubled 济济 always takes the jǐ reading.
