culture
Two famous referents: (1) the actual mountain in Hainan, named for its five peaks resembling fingers; (2) in 《西游记》 (Xīyóujì, Journey to the West), the Buddha turns his hand into a vast mountain and traps the Monkey King beneath it for 500 years until Tang Sanzang frees him. The line 'as long as you can't escape from the Buddha's palm' (如来手心) is the proverb that grew out of this scene.
