Originally a Tang court tune. The Ming poet 杨慎's version opens 滚滚长江东逝水 'The rolling Yangtze flows away to the east', and in the 17th century 毛宗岗 set it at the head of his edition of the novel. Its lines 青山依旧在 and 古今多少事 are quoted on their own.
