"Dragon City" — a name attached to several Chinese locations. Most famously it is the elegant nickname for Taiyuan (
太原), Shanxi's capital, since Tang dynasty poetry; for this reason Taiyuan's metro is called
龙城轨道. Longcheng is also Liuzhou's (
柳州) traditional name, and the official name of a district of Chaoyang (
朝阳, Liaoning) and of Changzhou (
常州, Jiangsu). In classical poetry
龙城 often refers to a Han-dynasty sacred site of the Xiongnu (e.g.
王昌龄 "
但使龙城飞将在").
