Tips

history
The literal image — singing so loudly the song pierces the clouds — comes from 《·》 in the famous story of the singer Qin Qing (), whose voice was said to 'shake forests and stop drifting clouds' (). Later writers extended the picture to 高唱入云 = praise loud enough to reach heaven.
register
Often used with mild irony: it can describe sincere acclaim, but in modern reporting it frequently flags hype that may be excessive.
