The viral catchphrase 理想很丰满，现实很骨感 ('dreams are full, reality is bony') exploded online around 2010 and turned 骨感 from a fashion-magazine adjective into an everyday metaphor for harsh, stripped-down truth. Now you'll see 骨感 paired with 现实 (reality) just as often as with 身材 (figure).
