Classic two-piece Cantonese verb+particle: (sik6, 'eat') + (zo2, perfective marker = Mandarin ). The canonical greeting 食咗饭未? ('Have you eaten?') is the HK equivalent of the 你吃了吗? cultural hello.
mistakes
is Cantonese-only. A learner seeing 食咗 in a Mandarin context is almost certainly looking at HK social media or a WhatsApp message. In Mandarin writing, use 吃了.
