history
It was once called 恶溪 'Wicked Creek' for the crocodiles in it. 韩愈, sent to Chaozhou in 819, wrote 《祭鳄鱼文》 ordering them to leave, and the river was later renamed after him.
mistakes
Not the 汉江, the long Yangtze tributary through Shaanxi and Hubei. Both are 'Han River' in English, but this one is written with 韩, the surname of Han Yu.
