In myth
阊阖 was the gate of the Heavenly Emperor's palace, so poets also used it for the gate of an imperial palace. The wind thought to blow from it,
阊阖风, is a poetic name for the west wind, and Suzhou's northwest gate
阊门 was named after the gate of heaven.
