Tips

history

From 毛泽东 (1961) 《七律·和郭沫若同志》. It borrows the 《西游记》 episode of Sun Wukong beating the White-Bone Demon to allude to the Sino-Soviet struggle against 'revisionism.' 金猴 is Sun Wukong, and the cudgel is his 金箍棒.

usage

金猴 is Sun Wukong. 千钧 uses the ancient weight unit 钧 (one jun = thirty jin), so 'thousand jun' means tremendously heavy. 棒 is the gold cudgel. Usually quoted together with the next line 玉宇澄清万里埃.
