Tips

history
The battle site is usually placed at today's 赤壁市 on the south bank of the Yangtze. The cliff Su Shi visited in 1082 is at Huangzhou, far downstream, and he hedged in his ci 《念奴娇·赤壁怀古》: 'people say this is Zhou Yu's Red Cliff'. His cliff came to be called 东坡赤壁, the 'literary' Red Cliff beside the 'military' one.
