Tips
history
From Duan Chengshi's 《酉阳杂俎续集》 (Tang): a strange creature, once sheathed, "ran off with blood pouring like a spout". The 注 literally means "to pour" — as from a spouted vessel.
register
Vivid and graphic. Common in fiction, news reports of accidents, and martial/wuxia writing. Medical contexts prefer plainer 大量出血.
