Per 《新华词典》, a reed-pipe instrument of the Miao, Dong, Shui, Yi, Gelao and Lahu peoples — usually six bamboo pipes inserted into a long wooden or gourd wind-chamber, each with a copper free reed. Central to the 芦笙舞, where musicians dance while playing, and to the Miao New Year festivities.
