联想) was founded in 1984 as
联想集团 and became a global giant after its 2005 acquisition of IBM's PC division. The name
联想 literally means 'associative thinking / to associate ideas', reflecting the founders' aspiration for technological imagination — a rare case where the Chinese name is the original and 'Lenovo' is the English rendering.
