罗得西亚 (Rhodesia) was the colonial-era name for today's Zimbabwe. Settlers crossed European hounds with the Khoikhoi's ridged hunting dogs to create a breed that could hold lions at bay until the hunter arrived - hence the old nickname 'African Lion Hound'.
