Close cousin of 麦芽糖 (maltose candy). 米糖 specifies a rice base — glutinous rice is fermented with malted barley, then boiled down into a sticky amber syrup or pulled into brittle candy. Common in Jiangxi and Zhejiang New Year sweets.
