Bacterial shape names are transparent in Chinese:
球菌 = sphere-bacteria (cocci),
杆菌 = rod-bacteria (bacilli),
螺旋菌 = spiral-bacteria. Once you know
菌 ('bacterium / fungus'), the genus prefixes
葡萄 (grape, staphylo-),
链 (chain, strepto-) read like the Greek roots they translate.
