Fuling is world-famous for 涪陵榨菜, the pickled mustard-root relish served with rice porridge across China. It's also where American writer Peter Hessler taught English 1996–1998, the setting of his book "River Town" (《江城》), one of the most widely-read foreign accounts of 1990s China.
