Also known as (Shā Wùjìng). In 西游记 he was originally a general in the celestial court, exiled to the Liusha River after breaking a crystal goblet. Often portrayed as the steady, loyal one of the four pilgrims — hence the modern joke that 沙僧 only has two lines: 大师! and 师父妖怪抓走!
