The historical Jiangxia Commandery (
江夏郡), established by the Han, covered much of the middle Yangtze around modern Wuhan. Readers of
三国演义 know it as the base of Liu Biao's officer Huang Zu (
黄祖) and later as the place Liu Qi held out before Chibi (
赤壁). Modern Jiangxia District in Wuhan keeps the ancient name.
