Tips

mistakes
Two readings. The wheel hub is 毂, as in the idiom 毂击肩摩 (a packed street where hubs knock and shoulders rub). The colloquial word 毂辘 (a wheel that rolls) uses 毂.

Components

radical
殳 shū
weapon; hand-action element
Right side is the 殳 radical, an old action element. It is the indexing radical here, grouping the character in traditional dictionary order.
semantic
车 chē
cart; wheel
The bulky left side wraps 车 (cart) inside a shell-shaped cap. The hub is the heart of a cartwheel, so the vehicle element makes the meaning concrete; the cap also carries the sound.
