Originating in Kunshan (Jiangsu) in the 14th century, Kunqu is the oldest surviving Chinese opera form and the basis for Peking opera. UNESCO listed it as intangible cultural heritage in 2001. Famous works: 《牡丹亭》, 《长生殿》.
