Built by the Ming Yongle Emperor between 1406-1420,
故宫 served as the imperial palace for 24 emperors over the Ming and Qing dynasties until the 1911 revolution. Today known as
故宫博物院 (the Palace Museum), it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest preserved wooden palace complex in the world.
